Publish and update

Publishing puts your game online. You get a link anyone can open and a code for your site, and both stay the same for good. Later edits stay private until you update the game.

Publish a game

  1. Open the game

Pick it in the sidebar, or make one first in Create a game.

  2. Press Publish

It is at the right end of the top bar. The Publish your game dialog lists what you get: a link to share, a code for your site, and which sites the game will run on.

  3. Press Publish in the dialog

The dialog turns into Your game is live, with the Share link and the code under Add to your site.

Where the game stands

The button at the right of the game's top bar always shows the game's state. Each one opens the same dialog.

ButtonWhat it means
PublishNot online yet. Only your workspace can see it.
Embed, with a green dotLive, and players see your latest version.
Update, with an amber dotLive, but you have changes players don't see yet.
Publish againTaken offline. It comes back at the same link and code.

Update a live game

Edits you make to a live game are saved as you go, but players keep seeing the version you published last. When you are ready:

  1. Press Update in the top bar.
  2. The dialog says what is waiting, for example Not live yet: style and puzzle.
  3. Press Publish changes.

Players see the new version within a minute.

What needs an update

ChangeExamples
Game choiceSwitching to another game type.

FeaturesFeature switches, starting level, Name on the cover, the end-screen button and note, the leaderboard.
PuzzleDaily, Pinned or Random, your own puzzles per day, the pinned puzzle.

What updates on its own

These reach live games within a minute, with no update:

  • Your sites, the list of websites allowed to show your games.
  • The results webhook.
  • Playgent's daily puzzles for days ahead, in games that use them.

Take a game offline

  1. Open the game's dialog from the top bar.
  2. Press Unpublish at the bottom left.
  3. Confirm with Unpublish in Take this game offline?

Within a minute, pages that show the game say This game isn’t available right now, and the share link stops working. Press Publish again whenever you like: the game returns everywhere it was, at the same link and code.

Who can publish

Owners, Admins and Developers can publish, update and take games offline. Editors and Analysts see Ask an owner, admin or developer to publish this game. Anyone in the workspace can copy the link and code of a live game. See roles.

Publishing and updating need a plan or a running trial. Taking a game offline always works. Games with the leaderboard on need the Team plan, see Plans and trial.
