Leaderboards

A leaderboard shows the top 10 players of a puzzle and where each player ranked. On a Daily game there is a new board every day, which gives readers one more reason to come back.

Turn it on

  1. Open the game's Features

Open the game and press Features in the top bar.

  2. Switch on Leaderboard

It is the last switch under After playing. On a Daily game it reads Players see today’s top 10 and their own rank.

  3. Update the game

Press Update in the top bar, then Publish changes. Players see the board within a minute.

Leaderboards work on Daily and Pinned games. Random games give every player a different puzzle, so they have none. See Daily games and the schedule.

What changes with a leaderboard

  • The timer is always on. The Timer switch shows Always on with the leaderboard.
  • Some hints add time, so a fast time stays fair. Restarting doesn't reset the clock.
  • Turn on End screen too, so players see their rank when they finish.

What players see

  • A trophy in the game's top bar opens the board at any time. The clock stops while it is open.
  • On the end screen, a line like #37 of 1,204 · Top 4% and a Leaderboard button.
  • The board shows Today's leaderboard, how many played, and the top 10 with their names and results. The player's own row is highlighted, or pinned under the list when they are outside the top 10.

Only the first try counts

Each player's first finished try at a puzzle is the one that ranks. Playing it again shows Your first result counts: #37. Puzzles opened from past days don't rank.

How players are ranked

A win always ranks above a loss, and showing the solution never ranks. Then each game uses its own measure:

Kind of gameRanked byShown as
Most logic and word puzzlesTime, hint time included2:41
Guessing games, such as word guessingFewest guesses3/6
Score games, such as triviaHighest score6,420 pts

Ties go to fewer hints, then the faster time, then whoever finished first.

Player names

  • Guests get a friendly name made up for their device, like Rustic Raven 62. They can press New name for another one.
  • Signed-in readers show the name your site passes in. See signed-in readers.

Names that look like links, phone numbers, insults or official accounts are replaced with a made-up name. Names on a board are public.

Only verified players

For contests with prizes, turn on Verified readers only under the Leaderboard switch. Then only readers your server vouches for appear on the board. Guests see Only signed-in players are ranked here. This needs signed-in readers with a signature.

Look at a board in Studio

Go to SettingsEmbedLeaderboards. Pick the Game, then the Day for Daily games, and the Level for games with levels. The table shows each row's Rank, Name and Time, and how many played.

Remove a row

Press Remove on a row and confirm. The row leaves the board within an hour. It still counts as that player's first try, so they can't play again for a better spot. Owners, Admins and Developers can remove rows. Anyone in the workspace can look.

To remove one reader from every board, use SettingsEmbedDelete a reader’s results with their reader id.

Show a board on your own pages

Each live board is also a public file you can read and show your own way. Find its address in the game's Embed dialog, under Advanced › Leaderboard data. See Results.

How long boards last

  • A Daily board takes results until 13:00 UTC on the next day, so every time zone gets its full day.
  • A Pinned board takes results while that puzzle stays pinned.
  • Results are kept for 90 days.

There is no all-time or weekly board today.
